Open Source License
Last updated: 11 June 2026
GameNest is free and open source. There is no paid "Pro" tier — every feature is included for everyone.
How it's licensed
The GameNest desktop application is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). You are free to use, study, modify, and share it under those terms. The full licence and source code are on GitHub.
Open core
A top-level ee/ directory in the source is reserved for future commercial features — a managed hosted version and team/scale features — under a separate commercial licence. That directory is empty today; the desktop app is, and will remain, fully free and open source.
Supporter & hosted keys
GameNest can recognise an optional key — for supporters, or for a future hosted plan. Entering a key is never required: it doesn't unlock anything in the free desktop app, which already includes everything. If you have a key, you can redeem it in Settings → Supporter.
Contributing
Contributions are welcome under the project's contributor terms, which keep the project AGPL while letting contributions also be used in future commercial features.
